I have learnt by strong observation and also by experience as a teacher that the performance and success of every student is not only determined by his teachers alone but by his parents.
parents have a very big role to play to help their children perform better academically. The success of a child begins at home.
For every student, there must be a balance between life in the School environment and at home. Every child is a reflection of the home he belongs to and every parent is responsible for the growth and development of their child.
Many parents believe that the success of their children and the increase in their performance is dependent on the teachers. But the truth it is more dependent on them.
As a parent know this. You are not there in your child's classroom, you are not always there to supervise his learning activities, but you are there at home.
your role at home is very important. Teachers are supposed to continue in the process that you already began. You may not be able to teach the child chemistry, physics, biology and maths but you can be part of his learning experience, you can be his or her leader, you can greatly assist your child in his learning experience by simply being there.
As a parent there is a void that only you can fill in the life of your child so therefore try as much as possible to be part of his learning experience.
You may be wondering how can I do this??
Am just going to explain two ways you can do this effectively.
1. LISTEN to your child.
If you hear a child speak you'll be really surprised the things you'll hear.
He/she may be a toddler or a young teenager but deep down needs emotional support in their educational advancement.
Give your child that attention.
Ask him/her about his best subjects, ask about their difficult subjects, why they have those difficulties? ask about the challenges they face in school, ask about their friends, ask about their experience so far.
Be open and make them feel comfortable sharing their thoughts on their educational performance and give them the comfort of knowing that they are not alone in their journey.
If you listen carefully to your child you'll be able to discover what they really need.
when you give you child a healthy attention it helps them build confidence, emotional stability and strength to perform better in school.
let your children comfortably confide in you concerning anything that relates to their school. they should be comfortable to tell you about their friends and anything that goes on in school in your absence. you can help them build that trust by giving them attention and a listening ear. By listening you can find out the problems, needs and wants of your child and come up with creative solutions to meet them thereby helping them become more effective in school and perform even better.
2. Assist him/her in her school work.
You may be a busy parent that has to leave to work early in the morning and come home late at night.
You may even feel that your child is old enough to do his own homework by his/ herself without your assistance. nevertheless try to assist in the littlest ways.
Most parents depend on test scores and report cards to assess the performance of their children, some of them even rate intelligence based on it.
You may not know the true intelligence of your child and the areas where he or she may need improvement if you don't engage the child to assess them personally. It could be a simple assessment of problem solving skills in maths and other sciences, their organization discipline, their social and relational skills even your child's handwriting is important. Check these things.
No matter how little your contribution is to the life of your child's academic work it goes a long way in improving their performance in school.
I believe these points have been really helpful to you.
